Five persons were confirmed dead on Tuesday while two others sustained injuries in an accident involving a Subaru car and a Honda bus at Orile Imo area on Sagamu/ Abeokuta Expressway.
The Public Relations Officer, Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) in Ogun State, Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi who confirmed the incident to journalists in Abeokuta, noted that the accident was caused by excessive speeding which led to loss of control on the part of the Honda with registration number EKY 365 FB.
The TRACE spokesman explained that the Honda bus lost control, veered into the other lane and collided with the Subaru car with registration number KTU 246 AT, inbound Abeokuta.
He added that seven male were involved in the accident, saying that five of them died while two others sustained injuries.
“The accident happened around 7:15am. The Honda was coming from Abeokuta, lost control, veered into the other lane and collided with the Subaru car with coming towards Abeokuta.
“Three people were initially Injured and four died instantly. However, post crash report indicates that another of the injured victims has also died making the number of the dead to five and two injured,” he said.
Akinbiyi noted that the corpses of the dead had been deposited at the morgue of the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) while the injured were taken to same hospital.
