Two persons have been confirmed dead in an accident involving two trucks along Ewekoro on the Lagos/Abeokuta Expressway.
The Public Relations Officer, Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi who confirmed the accident to journalists in Abeokuta, the ogun state capital said the incident occurred at 3.00am on Friday morning.
He said that a tipper lorry with registration number, BDG 282 XR was heading toward Papa area, drove against the traffic and had head collision with a trailer truck with no plate number.
Akinbiyi alleged that the accident was caused by speeding on the part of the tipper driver.
“The tipper was outbound Abeokuta before the incidence happened. It failed to drive on its lane according to traffic rules.
“Instead it chooses to drive against traffic before colliding with the incoming outbound container trailer which was on its normal lane.
“Four persons were involved in accident which resulted to the death of the two drivers while two other occupants sustained various degrees of injuries.
“The corpses of the victims have been deposited at the Mortuary, Ifo General Hospital, Ogun, while the injured were also receiving intensive treatments at the same hospital,’’ he said.
Akinbiyi, however, urged motorists to desist from driving against traffic in order to avoid unnecessary lost of lives.
