The Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr Kayode Fayemi today inaugurated all the Chairmen and Board Members for the four parastatals in his ministry, with the admonition that they should act as partners in progress in the ministry’s quest to enrich the nation’s economy.

The parastatals with new boards and chairmen are the Nigeria Geological Survey Agency (NGSA), with Emma Basset as Chairman; National Steel Raw Materials Exploration Agency, with Dr Yomi Finnih as chairman; National Metallurgical Development Center (NMDC), with Sebastian Ibezim as Chairman; and the Council of Nigeria Mining Engineers and Geosciences (COMEG), with Chief Godspower Okpoi as chairman.

Fayemi disclosed that the work of the board was to provide a more “effective oversight assistance to the ministry in its bid to become a major enabler and contributor to the nation’s economic drive.

“This is more so because of the transformational strides the agency has been making, according to data by the National Bureau of Statistics. Your coming is also more important now because of the ministry’s drive to drive cool-to-power and selection of this same ministry into a broader economic expansion plan to be launched tomorrow by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Mohammadu Buhari himself,” he added.

The appointment was approved last year by President Muhammad Buhari.

The ministry’s Minister of State, Abubakar Bawa Bwari, said: “your coming on board at this time was more strategic because such would further reinforce the team’s strength to carry on in spite of the daunting challenges.

“And more importantly, this is a ministry that has a strong culture of integrity. We hope your professional know-how would be dispensed with reference to this culture of uprightness, which is an essential component in our commitment to take the nation’s economy to the next level.”

Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Alh Abdulkadir Muazu imformed members of the board that: “your job is not a permanent assignment, but a temporary one with great expectations.”

Other dignitaries on hand at the event are Abdullahi Uthman, member, house of representative; Dr. Sarafadeen Isola, former minister in the ministry; and Acting Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Steel Raw Materials Exploration Agency, Hajia Rabi Umar Sodangi

Responding on behalf of the inaugurated, Okpoi thanked President Muhammedu Buhari for the honor of their appointment, adding that, “we promise that we will be a partner in progress. We will definitely not fail you. We will do what is best for our country.”
