Our attention has been drawn to the arrest of Omoyele Sowore, a political activist and publisher of Saharareporters.com by the Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS). This display of fascism and sheer government overreach by attempting to suppress the will of the Nigerian people to free themselves from the oppressive proclivities and shackles of the poverty inducing policies of the Buhari administration and the political class shall be resisted and defeated.
Nigerians across the country have been under siege with the brazen-ness of terrorists, kidnappers and the scandalous murderer of Nigerian soldiers. Our expectation is that the DSS rather than come after an unarmed patriot; Omoyele Sowore, would use similar force against the leaders of Boko Haram and the ubiquitous kidnappers.
The NDLF wishes to counsel the Nigerian government that no number of arrest and intimidation would stop the citizens from demanding for an egalitarian society that works for all Nigerians not a privileged few. An intelligent bunch of public officials would address the causes of agitation rather than the symptoms/effects.
The NDLF warns that if the government does not release Omoyele Sowore immediately we shall commence international awareness through the media and mobilize Nigerians for massive protests around the globe at Nigerian embassies and consulates. We shall also seek audience with the United States government and the European Union on the need to protect and guarantee his fundamental human rights notwithstanding the incessant constitutional breaches of the Nigerian government.
