Last Friday was one day the children of SOS Children’s Villages Nigeria would not forget in a hurry. It was a day of education and entertainment for the children when GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) came to celebrate the Orange Day with them at Isolo village in Lagos.
Speaking at the event, Mr Bhushan, General Manager Pharmaceutical said to the children “the Orange Day is a special day for the staff of GSK. It is a day set aside to have a nice time with beautiful children like you. In GSK, we are united by a single dream which is for everyone to feel better and live longer” He explained to the children the importance of reading and encouraged them to hold on to their dreams. “All the dreams you have as little children would be cherished and one day become a reality” he said.
GSK has been providing support to 20 children living in SOS Children’s Village Isolo, Lagos and SOS Children’s Villages Owu Ijebu, Ogun State respectively for over 10 years.
At the event also the company presented their 2017 sponsorship cheque. Before presenting the cheque; TS Dayanand, General Manager Consulting, told the children that he was happy to be here and to share in their happiness.
He urged the children to share the stories they have read with each other because they would learn a lot by so doing.
Receiving the cheque on behalf of the management of SOS Childrens’s Villages Nigeria, Mr Ayodeji Adelopo thanked GSK for its support and called on other corporates to emulate GSK so that more children and young adults that have lost or about to lose parental care can be reached.
The children were put in different groups with at least two adults who read short stories to them with illustrations. The adults asked the children questions after each story. There was also a short story telling, and drama presentation by the GSK staff which the children enjoyed very well.
“I enjoyed the story telling very much,” says Ogechi to her mother when she got home after the event.
SOS Children’s Villages Nigeria takes action for children and young adults that have lost parental care or about to lose parental care and GSK is a Science led global health care company that discovers, develop and delivers innovative medicines, vaccines and other healthcare products.
