Lisabi Grammar School Old Students Association (97 set) has said that the task of providing quality education should not be left to government alone.
Members of the Association said this last Thursday while donating an e-library to the school as part of activities marking the 20 years reunion of the set.
Speaking on behalf of the 97 set after the presentation at the school premises, their World President, Dr. Olumide Sorunmu said they donated the library to help the students.
He said, ” Since this is a reunion, we believe the mind of our younger ones should be given a platinum engraving – Lisabi Grammar School deserves a platinum treat from us and we are happy and proud of what we are presenting to the school today. The library, according to Norman Cousins, is ‘the delivery room for the birth of ideas, a place where history comes to life.’ The library, anywhere it is found, is the place of power where tender minds are nurtured and made to wrestle with the great minds of generations past”.
He added “As a matter of fact, destinies are made in the epicenter of learning from books as they are stacked on those wooden racks. Unfortunately, civilization is fast turning our young ones away, hence a need for total re-inclusion of library into learning. To this end, on this day, we are donating sets of furniture to the School library.
“We want our young “Lisabians” to feel comfortable as they sink their heads into books. We want them to feel so at home as they gather knowledge by themselves. From this day, we want the library to become the womb of greatness for our young academicians- hence we have come with this token”.
Sorunmu also charged the students to be diligent, noting that “we encourage you to see this institution as an oven, and your instructors as skilled bakers. Refuse to just rise superfluously as dough with too much of leavening agents but low substance. Soak yourself in the wisdom in this school and in that library. Take your destiny in your hand. Help yourself to unlimited greatness because no one can really put you down until you sponsor the coup yourself. Invest your life into learning and learning alone.”
In his remarks, the Principal, Senior School, Mr. Olufemi Okeowo, appreciated the old students for the donation, saying the library would enhance the learning skills and improve reading culture among the pupils.
The Acting Senior Boy, Oluga Ayobami thanked the group, saying they (students) are happy to receive the E-Library.
