The Ogun State Police Community Relation Committee (PCRC) on Tuesday asked the state Vigilance group to apologise to the So Safe Corps over the controversial murder of a 400-level student of Olabisi Onabanjo University in Ijebu-Igbo area of Ogun state, which was wrongly blamed on the corps.
It would be recalled that the suspects in the crime were paraded last Wednesday at the State Police Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta and on Thursday the vigilance group alleged that they are men of the So Safe Corps.
The PCRC, which condemned the allegation, described it as an act to tarnish the image of the corps.
During a solidarity visit to the Corps’ Secretariat, the PCRC which consist two commands, Abeokuta Metro and Adatan Royal Area Command and led by Yomi Whyte and Akinlabi Taiwo declared their support for the Corps.
Whyte described the integrity of the So Safe Corps as high, saying that nobody or group can drag it into the mud.
The PCRC boss, who is also the Chairman of Abeokuta Metro Area Command, said that the allegation is uncalled for, insisting that the VGN should go to press and apologise to the Corps.
His words “I still want to believe that there’s need to put this gentleman that has started this rubbish that made him say this in the public. He has to go to the press and make an apology for what he has done because if he does not do that, he has not done well.
“I think we have to make him do this so that there will be a balance information. I want to completely say that both the area commands are fully behind you. We will not do anything without a complimentary role from the so safe corps and we have been doing it together and we will continue to work together to ensure that we have a good and perfect relationship.”
Whyte also commended the So Safe Corps commander, Soji Ganzallo for providing security network and solution to ensure safety of lives and properties in the state.
In his response, Ganzalo explained that it was wrong for the Vigilance group to mention the Corps name in its press conference, stressing that when the three suspects were paraded at the police command, none of the suspects were mentioned to be members of the So Safe Corps
Ganzalo added that during the arrest and investigation there is no where that was mentioned or actually shown any of them to be members of the so safe corps.
He said the Corps might likely take the Vigilance group to Court for libel.
His words “So, if we go to court and it’s sure that he will pay severely for what he has done and if he doesn’t not retract that statement, then definitely we may likely charge for libel”.
