The dreams of two Nigerian men to build better lives for themselves in a foreign country came to a tragic end last weekend when one of the men stabbed the other to death during an argument over who is the better footballer: Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo?
According to reports from Spanish news agency EFE, Nwabu Chukwuma, 22, killed his friend, Obinna Michael Durumchukwa, 34 after an argument over which of the two La Liga superstars is the better player.
A row is reported to have broken out between the two friends at a birthday party in Mumbai, India.
Local policeman Kiran Kabadi said that the two men had entered into a row in the Indian village of Nalasopara and this led to the death of one and the arrest of the other.
Durumchukwa, 34, is understood to have thrown a glass at Chukwuma after a debate over the quality of the two players turned violent.
The missile missed Chukwuma, who then picked up a shard of broken glass, using it to cut his friend’s throat.
The 22-year-old is currently being detained by police at the Tulinj station in India.
Ronaldo and Messi were both on the scoresheet for their respective teams at the weekend.
The Real Madrid became the fastest ever player to score 350 European league goals last week, scoring four in Real Madrid’s 7-1 demolition of Celta Vigo.
