In what could be described as harvest of arms, the Ogun state police command has recovered a total number of 3,445 arms and ammunition from suspects and hoodlums in the State within 21 days.
This, according to the State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Illiyasu who spoke at the Command’s Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta on Thursday was in compliance with the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris , directive that arms and ammunition illegally possessed by every individual be mopped up in order to reduce crime to its barest minimal.
Some of the recovered items, Illiyasu said included 24 AK47 assault rifles , 66 pump action guns, 1,088 single and double barrel guns, 1.025 rounds of 7.62mm ammunitions as well as 1,241 rounds of live cartridges.
Illyasu said the arms and ammunition were recovered from the suspects at different locations of the state.
The police boss also paraded 27 suspects for various offences, ranging from cultistism,fraud, car snatching, armed robbery, possession of hard drugs, among others.
He disclosed that some law abiding citizens complied with the order while other arms were seized and recovered from criminal gangs ranging from armed robbers, kidnappers, cultists among others.
He stressed that the state would be uncomfortable for criminals in the state.
