Worries over the desperation of the APC led federal government to sway this week’s Ekiti governorship polls in its favour escalated on Wednesday when heavily armed policemen stormed the Ekiti State government house.
The policemen, who blocked all entrances to the quarters of the state governor, Ayodele Fayose, also fired at the governor when he accosted them, one of his aides said.
Mr. Lere Olayinka, the Special Media Aide to Ekiti State governor, Mr. Peter Ayodele Fayose, explained that Fayose might have escaped a plot to assassinate him on Wednesday.
‘’Gov Fayose, a few minutes ago escaped plot to assassinate him by Fayemi and his APC. He is currently receiving treatment at govt house clinic after he was hit by teargas canister fired by the policemen,’’ Olayinka said. ‘The armed policemen still laying siege at the Govt House.’’
President Muhammadu Buhari and other leaders of the APC were in Ekiti on Tuesday to campaign for the party’s governorship campaign, Kayode Fayemi.
The PDP in the state have accused the APC and the federal government of a plot to disrupt Saturday’s polls by the large contingent of armed security operatives deployed to the state in favour of Fayemi.
