The unease over the lawless escapades of Fulani herdsmen across the country reached a turning point Tuesday morning when a gang of them took over the secretariat of the Akure South Local Government of Ondo State, sending the entire staff scampering out of their offices in the process.
Akure is the seat of power of the Ondo State government. The governor, Rotimi Akeredolu is an ally of president Muhammadu Buhari, whose government has been accused of cuddling the herdsmen as they spread their campaign of terror across the country.
Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Gbenga Adeyanju and the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Mr. Pedro Ideba, reportedly rose to the occasion by deploying their men to the council after which the situation was brought under control.
Unconfirmed reports say one of the workers of the council was macheted by the herdsmen.
No official of the council could be reached, as the premises was deserted as at time of filing this report and the Ondo State government was yet to make any comment on the issue.
