MTN Nigeria has distanced itself from reports it has commenced the implementation of charges on Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) voice or text message customers who make banking transactions on its network.

There were reports the telecommunications giant would today (Monday) begin to charge customers for Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) voice or text message which allows them to carry out banking transactions via their mobile phones.

But the company said it has not begun the implementation.

Speaking with DAILY INDEPENDENT, Mr Funso Aina, Senior Manager, External Relations, MTN Nigeria, said the service provider had yet to commence the implementation of USSD charges.

“We have not commenced the implementation of charges on our customers for Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD),” he said.

Since the announced plan by the telecoms operators in the country, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and many stakeholders have been expressing reservations over the planned charges for Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) voice or text message development.
