A new page was opened in Ojokoro Local Council Development Area, Lagos State recently when Igbo Vision in APC Lagos State inaugurated its Ojokoro chapter executive with the Executive Secretary, Hon. Fausat Hassan-Olajoku and the APC Chairman in Ojokoro LCDA, Prince Adewale Bello in attendance. At the occasion, Chairman, Igbo Vision in APC Ojokoro LCDA, Chief Charles Ukeje, spoke with City Voice’s Sunday Rotilefon on his drive to unite Igbo people for APC in the forthcoming local council poll in the state. Excerpts:
Tell us about Igbo Vision in APC?
Igbo Vision in APC came to be after the endorsement of President Muhammudu Buhari and Vice president Yemi Osinbajo. Unlike before when we had over 43 Igbo groups in the State, the National Leader of APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, had a closed door meeting with all Igbo leaders and advised that we should collapse all Igbo groups and form a single group. The assignment was given to Chief Uche Dimgba Okpotemba of Igbere kingdom who is also the Eze Ndigbo of Ikeja and Mr. Joe Igbokwe, the Publicity Secretary of APC Lagos State. They are the founders and Apex Leaders of Igbo Vision in APC Lagos State.
Igbo vision is more of a political group. What do you intend to achieve?
We are a political group with an intention to foster unity and support for the Yoruba’, if we are good students of history, we will understand that the political liberation for the South started in Lagos and the likes of Adekunle Fajuyi of blessed memory, laid down his life for the south. Therefore, we the Igbo should be proud of our Yoruba who are so accommodating and loving because many Igbos have recorded a lot of successes from Lagos State. So, we the Igbo leaders have realized that confrontation or argument is not supposed to be emanating from the Igbo and Yoruba. So Igbo Vision is meant to harmonise the two ethnic groups to live in one accord as brothers.
How does your group intend to sort out the disputes amongst Yoruba and Igbo in Ojokoro LCDA?
That has been the work of the newly inaugurated executive before the Executive Secretary and APC chairman. We have been going to all nooks and crannies of Ojokoro to meet with Igbo’ living or doing business here; preaching to them to maintain peace, be law abiding and to show love to their host, community leaders and residents. We are also supporting the environmental development in order to have a safe environment for their business to triumph.
I want to assure you that by the time these moves manifest, the forthcoming local government elections in Lagos will be a win-win for APC. Apparently we have spoken to our brothers and we are still meeting and strategizing for APC to win all councillor and chairman seats the state.
How do you think your efforts can be felt in the forthcoming LGA elections in Lagos?
Let me tell you in Ojokoro LCDA, Igbo Vision have coordinators in all the seven wards who are mobilizing Igbo for APC and make sure the party records all-round victory it deserved. So for this measure put in place by Igbo Vision the forthcoming election will be a smooth victory in Ojokoro and across Lagos state.
Is your group working with all APC aspirants in the LCDA?
Yes , we belong to the party and because all the aspirants are from the party we are in good relationship with them. We hope to have the best candidate when the time comes, who have the love of Igbo people at heart. Let me also tell you that we have a good rapport with the leaders of APC in Ojokoro, the party chairman received our group with open arms, Baba Ile-Ogbo, Alhaji Amje, E.S, Hon. Makinde amongst other leaders.
What are you doing to make sure your group speaks with one voice?
That is why we are a group and in unity we stand, that’s why we have executive. Before demanding for anything, it would have been deliberated upon in our meetings. The most important thing is that we know our people and our people know us before choosing us. . We are rest assured that we will always remain united..
Your final words for the Igbo, APC and the aspirants
The Igbo should remain law abiding, and support APC to the core and join hands in developing their immediate community. The party should continue to show us love and also consider us in the political appointment. Also, our aspirants should realize that this is a contest that someone must win. We should embrace anyone who wins and the person who wins shouldn’t make it winners take all but carry others along to ensure a successful government.
