Nigeria’s latest efforts in cassava root vegetables transformation into high-value industrial food ingredients and convenient packaged food products for the global consumer markets was featured at the 3rd Edition of the Feed Nigeria Summit (FNS) held August 27-28, 2019 in Abuja, Nigeria.

Two US-based agribusiness companies – Shine Bridge Global Inc. (Chesapeake Beach, Virginia) and Fayus Inc., (Sacramento, California); with two Nigeria-based agribusinesses – Elephant Group Plc. and Pacific Ring West Africa (PRWA), unveiled the strategic partnership to export High-Quality Cassava Flour (HQCF) or Tapioca Flour from Nigeria to the US for making gluten-free food products for human and animal consumption.

Subject Matter Expert at the Summit, Dr. Tony Bello, Managing Director, Shine Bridge Global (SBG) is determined to partner with local Nigeria agribusinesses and other US food and agricultural companies to transform cassava into functional flour for making gluten-free consumer foods for humans and animals in Africa, North America and Europe.

Dr. Bello, who served as Senior Technical Adviser on Agribusiness to Nigeria’s former Federal Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr Akinwuni Adesina, said: “as partners, we are determined to re-apply proven food science and engineering principles to transform cassava into the potatoes of Africa.”
He said, “we are leveraging strategic partnerships to unlock prosperity in Edo State under the transformational leadership of the Executive Governor Godwin Obaseki and the Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Dr Godwin Emiefele and the technical services support of the Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing system for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL).”

From Dr Bello’s perceptive perspective, Africa is rising, and he’s confident of the Africa industrial agricultural revolution taking place in Nigeria as presented by these strategic partners to unlock prosperity in Nigeria and with the professional inputs of Barrister Richard Mark, CEO of Agro-Nigeria, he has confidence in the scale-up of the Tapioca Flour Industrialization project in Edo State throughout Nigeria and Africa at large.

According to Dr Bello, in Edo State, Shine Bridge Global is pioneering Public-Private Partnerships to unlock prosperity for our smallholder cooperative farmers, working with Prince Joe Okojie, Special Adviser on Food and Nutrition Security, Agriculture and Forestry to Governor Obaseki adding that what SBG is doing in the Edo State public-private partnership is applying a creative model to bring advanced technical and global consumer foods knowledge in transforming food and agriculture industry.

It is noteworthy that Dr. Bello is a world-renowned inventor of Pepsico’s Lays Stax and Oven Baked Lays potato crisps. He brings a wealth of knowledge and network to Nigeria’s Agricultural Transformation and President Buhari’s Next Level Agenda. Dr Bello is in partnership with Dr. Mima Nedelcovych, CEO, Africa Global Partners, the acclaimed financial advisory services providers based in Washington DC.

In joining hands with Pacific Ring West Africa, Dr Bello is confident of the imminent export market and trade promotions between Nigeria and the United States has become a reality. He further noted that the institutional partnership between Edo State Government, NIRSAL and the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Anchor Borrowers Programme has been the key to success in unlocking prosperity for 445 farmers to cultivate 667 Ha of cassava mechanized farms across three Senatorial districts in Edo State, thus directly improving lives and transforming foods for the world, which is the vision of Shine Bridge Global Inc. and partners.
