Days after he mobilized youth in Ibarapa to evict dwellers at a Fulani settlement suspected of harbouring kidnappers and vandals, a house suspected of belonging to Chief Sunday (Igboho) Adeyemo was Tuesday morning set on fire.
The incident follows on the interception, Monday afternoon, of a truckload of men from the northern part of Nigeria who had with them about 25 guns and 10 dogs.
Witnesses said the house, located at the Soga area of Ibadan, was set on fire some minutes after electricity was switched off around the whole area.
Adeyemo no longer lives in the house.
The Amotekun unit at Ido, Oyo State Monday, arrested the passengers in a truck with Reg N0 TUR 30 ZY Kebbi who were found with dangerous weapons. The men have been handed over to the police for further interrogation.
On Monday, a security meeting involving southwest governors, their counterparts from the north, security officials and leaders of Miyetti Allah agreed to ensure security of lives and property across the country and prohibit open grazing of cattle across the southwest region.
A security analyst, Boyede Ibrahim however told CITYVOICE that the southwest can expect more trouble from some Fulani criminals.
“If ever we have learnt anything from events in other parts of the country, it is that the Fulani does not forgive a slight,” Ibrahim said. “They are certainty retaliate for the Ibarapa incident. I suspect the fire at Sunday Igboho’s house is a signal from the Fulani to him that they have him in their sight.”
